Plank and strip...defined  

When searching through wood samples, you will see Plank and Strip referred to in the name of the products. Although it may appear to mean the same thing there is in fact different meanings between each word. These words are used to describe the width of the board. In terms of wood flooring, Strip refers to wood flooring where the width of the board is 2 ¼” wide. Plank refers to a board width of 3” or more. In fairness to your education, there are also Random Flooring products where the widths include 3”, 5” or 7” widths, giving the floor a more patterned look.
