alternative wood blinds

Product Overview

Faux wood blinds are classified either as a Composite, which is a blend of PVC and wood pulp or as PVC, which is an extruded PVC plastic. They can be opened or closed by tilting the slats for light control and privacy. These blinds have the look and feel of wood but are heavier in weight, available in limited colors, require a greater number of ladders to support their less rigid slats, but are lower in price. These blinds are available in 2-inch and 2 ½-inch slat sizes, in a limited range of colors and wood tones, along with a wide selection of decorative woven cloth tapes, valance and cornice options. They are very durable and easy to maintain. Faux woods will not to crack or warp, and are recommended for high humidity climates and rooms that may be subject to moisture, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

What are the benefits and of this product type?

  • Get the look of wood blinds but at a lower price.
  • Will not crack or warp and are recommended for high humidity environments and rooms that are subject to moisture, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
  • Effectively control outside light by tilting the slats with a wand or cord while keeping your privacy. A room can be darkened substantially when the slats are fully closed.
  • Easy to maintain and extremely durable.
  • Faux Woods have limited color selection.
  • Approximately 60% (composite) to100% (PVC) heavier than American hardwood wood blinds of equal size. The heavier the blind the greater the effort to raise and lower it.

Types of Faux Wood Blinds:

Composite Faux Woods
  • Approximately 60% heavier than hardwoods which make it more difficult to raise and lower the blind.
  • Slats do not warp.
  • Will require more ladders (also known as strings) to support slats due to the composite material’s lesser rigidity as compared with wood. More ladders means more "clutter" to look through when enjoying the view out your window. The wider the window the greater the number of ladders.

PVC Faux Woods

  • Heaviest in weight of 2” horizontal blind options - about twice as heavy as American Hardwood blinds.
  • Very difficult to lift.
  • Do not warp
  • Will require more ladders (also known as strings) than wood or Composite to support slats due to PVC’s lesser rigidity than either wood or composite.

Vinyl Faux Woods

  • Lighter than PVC blinds in weight because it is thinner - still about twice as heavy as American Hardwood blinds.
  • Available only in curved slats. Because it is thinner, the curved slats provide additional stiffness.
  • Provides reduced light leakage between slats over flat PVCs.
  • Very difficult to lift
  • Warp-free
  • Will require more ladders (also known as strings) than wood or Composite to support slats due to PVC’s lesser rigidity than either wood or composite
